Computer games are a multibillion dollar industry. As much attention is paid to the launch of a new computer game system as is paid to the launch of the Space Shuttle, maybe even more. Computer games are often on the minds of adults as well as young people. And as computers have become faster and more robust, so have computer games. With micro chip makers producing ever faster and more powerful chips, computers and computer games just keep getting better and better. Computer games run the gamut from simple computer games for very young children for education and entertaining purposes, to the ultra violent and explicit computer games for mature audiences.
Computer games can be pure entertainment or they can really pack an educational punch in a very pleasing package. Using computer games to teach a vast array of topics has become a fairly common practice. It is well known that kids learn better if they are entertained in the process and entertainment is what computer games are all about. History can be brought to life in a most entertaining manner through computer games. Science can be made so much more accessible and memorable through computer games. computer games are excellent math tutors. Computer games can make the repetition of learning basic math skills fun and exciting. Children are more likely to study more, learn faster and retain more, if the learning is disguised as play. Computer games are a powerful learning tool. Unfortunately, not all of what children are learning form computer games is positive.

Parents should be extra careful about what their kids are being exposed to through computer games and not just assume all computer games are appropriate for their children. One way to do this is to pay attention to the rating on the packages of computer games and use them as a guide before purchasing and permitting children to play any of the games out there. Computer games are a great learning tool and a great entertainment vehicle. Computer games can do a lot for your kids if used correctly and can be a great stress reliever for adults when played in moderation. Computer games are a good thing if controlled and used sparingly.
