One of the greatest and easiest things we can do for the world environment is helping us to become a paperless world. Computers can play a large part in that process.

The consumption of paper, even when it gets recycled, causes a huge reduction in the tree population world wide. And the more we use computers for work and leisure, the more we are using computers for a paperless world. There are many uses of computers that will move us to this goad of having a virtually paperless world. These uses apply to our business and personal lives.

At work, we can communicate by email and electronic memos. This will reduce the amount of stationary and memo pads used and therefor produced as the market for them disappears and we will be using computers for a paperless world. In meetings, instead of writing notes or minutes of the meeting, type them directly into folders on a laptop or notebook computer. No more need for pencils on the conference table of paper tablets and you will be using computers for a paperless world. When you need to produce a presentation for sales work or department meetings, use your computer…not the overhead projector with stacks of paper graphs and charts. The superior presentation software like Powerpoint makes it possible to use computers for a paperless world.

At school, the spiral and loose leaf notebooks can be eliminated with the use of a small computer for lecture notes. And research papers can be emailed to professors so they won’t need to carry around huge folders of paper copies for grading. These are great ways to use computers for a paperless world. Assignment pads and day planners won’t be necessary any longer because students, teachers and the working world are all moving to BlackBerry devices for PIM (personal information management) which are paperless tools that do even a better job of keeping one organized and thus assisting in the use computers and other technology for a paperless world.

At home, you can forget about writing out your shopping list of those expensive little notebooks that use up valuable forest products to produce. You can use your home computers for a paperless world by keeping an ongoing list in a simple program like text edit or notepad and email it to your cell phone for reference in the store when you go shopping. And instead of writing down phone numbers and addresses on scraps of paper that often get lost, get in the habit of entering them into your computer address book or contacts list and contribute in the effort to use computers for a paperless world.
