In the more developed countries, computers in the home have become quite common. In addition to the family personal computer, computer in the home now consist of laptop computers that people may have for business purposes and most families have a separate computer for the school aged students in the household. There are also many other computers in the home in the form of micro chips in many household appliances that make them run more efficiently and perform many functions. There was a time when the thought of computers in the home was a laughable idea. Computers were huge room-sized machines that required vast amounts of electricity to run and armies of technicians to maintain them. Then the computer got smaller and more energy efficient, until the personal computer changed everything. Suddenly, everyone could have a computer, even in their home if they wanted one. Oh, they weren’t terrible reliable and they were pretty slow compared to today’s personal computers, but computers in the home were now a reality. the stuff of science fiction was coming true. All because of the micro chip. Chip makers were stacking more and more components on each tiny chip. chips became faster and faster.
The computer in your home became more and more powerful. As the speed and storage capacity of the computer in the home grew so did their functionality. Computers in the home could do more and more things. There were becoming more and more useful and computers in the home were getting cheaper and cheaper. As computers in the home became more prevalent, software became more plentiful and with each new generation of home computer, software became more and more robust.
All of these trends conspired to make computers in the home more and more widespread and accepted. Until the present time when people not only have a computer in their home, they have several. sometimes every member of the family has one. And computers in the home are not just limited to personal computers. No. Now your car has its own computer. Your heating and air conditioning system has its own computer. Your refrigerator has its own computer. And on and on. Computers in the home are here in a big way and computers in the home are here to stay.
