Disadvantages Of Linux
The concept behind linux is very simple. It is free and open source operating system the whole idea was that there should be freedom to change this linux operating system as per your needs. This concept of creative freedom is very good and is useful for the good of the humanity. But the point is how many people are in the position to use it? Can everybody make the changes in the linux as per his own needs? The answer is precisely no. You require certain amount of technical knowledge if you want to use this linux operating system as per the concepts behind it.
The disadvantages of linux start because of this reason only. The first disadvantage is of course the steep learning curve. There is really too much of technical knowledge involved here. If you can learn linux operating system, it is of course a very good thing. It is also a fact that there is lot of info material available on the internet. The fact remains that there is a vibrant linux community ready to help you in your learning process. There are forums to help the members to learn this linux and everything about it. But in spite of tons of tutorials and guides about this linux the fact remains that it is not easy to learn this linux operating system.
The ordinary people are NOT interested in learning anything. You can learn some basic facts very fast. But it will require lot of time and efforts to understand and use everything really well. The people want instant gratifications. Who will spend the time and will have motivation for learning something technical?
It is natural that there are many easy to use linux operating systems in the market now. There is good response for them from ordinary people also. But this defeats the basic philosophy of expecting the linux user to become a developer.
The second disadvantage in the disadvantages of linux will be about equivalent programs. Yes there are lot many equivalent programs available on linux now. But he point is how much time and technical knowledge you will require to convert all the data bases and the application data.
The third disadvantage in these disadvantages of linux will be about the hardware compatibility. The latest and greatest hard ware produced will not have the linux compatibility. You will need the support from the third party drivers and all that sorts of thing. This is not easy to get. There is enthusiastic linux community members who do develop these resources eventually as the history has proved.
But there can be time gap in this process. The technical ability for understanding and handling linux will remain its main disadvantage.
