File Network Server
There is a technical definition of the term file network server. But let us not go in to these details. If you want to get some file from your associate how can you get it? There can be peer to peer sharing of computers. This is one method of getting the data from different files. But this sort of arrangement suffers from many problems. The first and most important point is as you go on adding the computers, the computers slow down. What you get in adding more PCs, you loose in their speed. The second important point is that there is no security in his type of peer to peer sharing of PCs. There can be virus attack or the possibility of unauthorized persons accessing the important files.
The file network server has lot many advantages. There are different clients on one side. There is storage of different files on the other side. The file network server is protecting all these files. But the funny part is that this file server does not have info that it is serving the files! When a client wants a particular file he contacts the file network server. The server asks for the credentials of the client. If the client’s credentials are validated, then the file network server gives that particular file to the client.
The file network server can be a PC. It can be a device dedicated for this particular job. It stores all the files. The first advantage is that it provides full security to these files. There can be anti virus systems to protect the system from the virus attack. There can be other security measures also. This server has to be fail proof. It has to provide the service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without fail. For this some components are added in this file network server.
In any office there are lot many records. The finance people need not view management files. There can be different departments. There is clear categorization. Under these circumstances the people from one section will be allowed to view files of that section only. With the file network server it is possible to put this kind of restriction in file sharing. Even in the department, there will be persons with different designations. The person of certain designation will be allowed to view certain files only. This is possible in file network server system.
In the market there are lot many models of file network server available. You can choose one according to your needs. For smaller needs you can build your own file network server using any old PC.
