Internal Working
The Internal working of internal camera for the laptops can be described as follows -The chips which are referred as charge coupled devices (which are also called CCDs), a function which serves as the “eyes” of a digital camera, converting light energy into electronic signals. IBM’s new image sensors use advanced process and color filter technologies to deliver the high sensitivity required for quality digital still pictures.
IBM is now planning to incorporate 1.3 and 2.0 Mpixel Array CCD image sensors into two production-ready camera designs which are developed by leading camera and lens design companies. These solutions includes integrated chip designs, lenses, CCDs, operating system, analog to digital image converters and ASICs to process images and perform camera functions.

Advantages
Full frame design enables greater than 95 percent usable pixel area as compare to 50 percent (in typical configuration) for interline technology (which is adapted from past camcorder applications); and it also eliminates the need for micro lens (which is used by interline devices) which are subject to light scatter problems and adds additional problems related to complexity and additional costs. Its Vertical anti-blooming design adds effective control for localized overexposure without loss of additional pixel area.

IBM is working with leading camera and lens design companies to incorporate the chips into digital camera designs and enabling manufacturers to quickly reach volume production of high performance at affordable solutions.
