The meaning of the term VPS is virtual private server. In this article about VPS, I will try to explain the term virtual private server. We know what a physical server is. You can divide the resources of a physical server. Mainframes were very expensive at one time. They were very large also. For using them, they were divided. Each VPS will have unique memory allocations, CPU and bandwidth.
The first benefit of VPS is performance isolation. This means that if there is heavy traffic on one VPS, then it will not affect remaining VPS. The individual VPS will have limited CPU, memory and process etc. The second benefit of these VPS will be functional isolation. These VPS do not share processes. These VPS are always invisible to each other. These VPS do not share same file systems. These VPS never share applications or systems. These VPS have excellent fault tolerance. What does this mean? If there is fault in one VPS, it will not be carried to other VPS at all. This means errors or faults in one VPS will not affect any other VPS in the system. What about set of IP addresses? Well, each VPS will have different set of IP addresses. Every VPS will have different network stack also.
You get root access to your VPS. What does this mean? You are in full control as you will be in case of the dedicated server. You can manage the VPS as you want and have your own applications. You will get guaranteed CPU, band width, uptime, disc space, and qqs/sla memory.
The advantages of the dedicated server are full control, security, isolation, performance. If you get a dedicated server, it is generally not possible to use its more than 5% capacity. VPS is better option. You can grow as you want. You can always expend. It is very easy to do so.
