Trojans are difficult to prevent because of the fact that they are hidden. Within this “safe” program is usually something harmful, such as a virus or worm. You can get Trojans from downloading pictures, music, videos and such. While downloading it appears to be safe, but as soon as you run the program the virus or worm begins its destruction.
Each Trojan varies and causes a different amount of damage. Some Trojans will do things simply to annoy you, such as constantly displaying pop-up ads. However, most of the time a worm or virus accompanies the Trojan and causes a great deal of damage to your system.
Worms have a great effect on your system when accompanied with Trojans. Worms are little creatures that replicate themselves, one after another. They generally come through e-mail, but can also infect people’s systems if they accept a Trojan file that has the payload worm.
Worms not only replicate themselves on your system, but also spread quickly through the e-mail. If you do get a worm through your e-mail and then execute it, the program will automatically send the file out to everyone listed in your address book. They actively spread quickly throughout the internet, and take over your computer fast as well.
The effects are felt by Trojans and worms strongly. They can do a number of things to your system such as taking over your IRC channels, erasing your hard disk, and most frightening is theft of your account passwords and personal history. If you are not careful downloading and opening e-mails, you may be auctioning off your personal information without realizing it.
As the internet continues to expand, people are becoming increasingly sophisticated with programs and files. However, there are many people that start Trojans and worms at the expense of others. There are constantly new Trojans and worms developing across the internet making it vital that you are cautious of what you open up. With the knowledge people have, people are coming up with more sophisticated ways to hide the Trojans making it difficult to protect your system.
Trojans and worms continue to develop and spread across hundreds of thousands of people’s systems. It can range from an annoyance to great destruction, but regardless of the severity it is vital you remain aware of the potential harm.
